The Arthur Bliss Society
Rebeca Omordia at Cheltenham Town Hall
On Tuesday 17 March 2015 the Society arranged a Lunchtime
Recital at Cheltenham Town Hall as part of the regular lunchtime
recital programme. Rebeca Omordia played the
as the John Ireland
and Ravel’s ‘Scarbo’ from
Gaspard de la nuit
. The concert was given in association with the
Arthur Bliss Society, the Bliss Trust and the John Ireland Trust.
There was a large and knowledgeable audience and we were all
moved and impressed by Rebeca’s playing. She had obviously a
deep feeling for the Bliss work and the slow movement, ‘Elegy’, was
particularly full of emotion which transferred to the audience.
Rebeca said afterwards that she was almost overwhelmed with the
emotion and had thought as she played of members of her own
family who were involved with the World War.
The audience gave her a very warm reception at the end of the recital and many of them queued
up to speak to her, mostly saying how much her playing had really moved them.
Rebeca hopes to play the
more often in the future, and hopefully may play it in her
homeland, Romania, where she frequently gives recitals and concert performances.
